Hi,

The values you attached show that your are suffering from microcytic and hypochromic anemia which is most commonly due to iron deficency, but you say you have haemoglobin e disese(which is not a very common diagnosis)
Rest your liver function tests show raised values and also shows long lasting effects on liver, and if you don't have any infection of liver then it is due to alcohol which you will have to decrease and try to stop it(old hepatomegaly or fatty liver is also due to the same. You can have syrup urodeoxycholic for that, but it has very less action and you will have to quit alcohol finally for looking better effects.
It does not seem to be very serious, although you will have to be precautious for your liver function tests which seems to be high and the only treatment being abstenence from alcohol.
The diet won't have much effects over your anemia, but you can avoid spicy oily food and have good vegetable diat and fruits.

Patient asked followup Question: 11 years ago

I have consulted my doctor but he have not asked for any liver infection tests like hepatitis..instead he asked me to do a thyroid antibodies test...i don't know why?...I have stopped alcohol and wont be drinking anymore in future...I also wanted to know sir that my eyes are still yellow and it has yellow from many years(Not clear like white), and little weakness is there...how much time will it take to be normal and does smoking will effect my condition...Please also tell me the list of things to avoid in any cause apart from alcohol....your advice would of great health..... Thanks, Biman Das

Hi,

I am not sure, your doctor must have examined you so he can might be telling better, but i belive you should have complet liver tests including pt aptt and coagulation profile and billirubin levels and also repeat the tests you already have.
Although yellow eyes can also be due to mddy sclera, some people have muddy sclera.
Your tsh is also raised so he might be telling you for some test or may be you could be directly be put on medicines for this.
Time taken is different for diffirent persons for improvement.
Yes you will have to quit smoking that is even more dangerous than drinking.
Without examining you i can just say yo to have a moderately good amout of protein and try to gain for the lost protein and avoid excessive and salt in your diet

My father is 78 years old and has been suffering from constipation for the last 2 years. He has also lost a lot of weight around 10 kgs in this time span. In the last couple of months he has been complaining that his abdominal muscles have torn due to bowel straining and now he says there is loss of muscle in his stomach area. Which is why when he lies down everything is fine but when he sits up and walks around he feels like he is carrying a weight in his stomach. After intake of food it becomes worse and he also gets bloating. We have done all possible tests - colonoscopy, CT scan, ultrasound sometime last year and everything was clear. The doctors gave a verdict of idiopathic constipation and left it at that. His blood work is fine, haemoglobin levels, cholestrol etc. He still suffers from constipation. His prostrate is enlarged but results are fine. What is the solution to his stomach muscle problem ? Is it lack of exercise, lack of protein ? He doesnt have a pot belly and has never had and had always been physically active and fairly slender.

Hi, History told by you favours irritable bowel syndrome ( IBS ). There are two alarming signs in your case : Firstly, loss of weight and that to10kg approx. Secondly, sensation of carrying a weight in stomach. Both of them do occurs in IBS. But to be on safer side,I would suggest you to go for colonoscopy again because it was done 1 yr back and symptoms have aggravated few months back. Treatments available for IBS - - Increase the level of physical activity. - Have regular meals and take t ...

Hello, I have had a nail fungus for a good ten years or so. When I first noticed it, I went to my doctor and he game me lamasil which I stopped taking after a few days since it had negative affects on me. Thereafter, I stopped taking care of it and just let it go for a good 7 or 8 years. I eventually grew up and started getting very self conscious of how it looked and wanted to wear sandals and flip flops and not have people think nasty things about me. A few years ago I went to my doctor again and he gave me a topical oil which I used for over a year and did not see any results. About two years ago, I noticed that a vertical brown line was starting to grow from the bottom up. I went to a dermatologist who took a sample of my nail but did not take a sample of the nail bed or from the cuticle. Biopsy came back as of course it being a fungus. He in turn gave me pills to take which I also had to stop taking since it was having a bad affect on my liver. After that, my dermatologist said that he would give me laser treatments which I did two of. They did not clear it but it looks a little bit better then what it was before. Still thick, yellow, crumbling below the nail, nail bed where new nail is growing is darker then the others and the brown line is still there. It is a thick brown line. How did I get this brown line? Did I get it because of the prolonged damage of the nail bed due to the years of having the nail fungus?

  Doctor's Answer

You're most welcome. Nail Melanoma does not affect multiple nails together while Longitudunal Melanonychia (LM) often does. The fact that an additional nail is showing changes is nearly conclusive that this is LM, which as I said is harmless. However it would be best to see your doctor to get this confirmed since I cannot see the affected area. I would recommend getting the entire nail removed if its the only one affected by fungus, but this will be solely to treat the fungus not because I thin ...

I let an abcessed tooth go untreated for about six months and during that time i had an exam for a life insurance policy. The blood test revealed that I was having liver function problems, everything on the test was perfectly normal except my ast and alt levels were really high. Could that be because the infection had gotten into my body?

  Doctor's Answer

Not just the tooth but infection on any part of the body will surely lead to changes in antigen- antibody levels. The retained infectious tooth needs to be treated as soon as possible and you need to start with antibiotics. Based on the extent of the damage either a root canal treatment, apicoectomy or extraction maybe needed. ...

GERD. It has been on and off since 2008. The condition worsened last month in Jan 2013 and I could hardly swallow any solid food. It just gets stuck in the throat and feel like I am choking till I push the food down with water. Liquids and semi solid foods are ok. The doctors did Nasal Endoscopy, Normal Gastro Endoscopy, Esopheagal Manometry, Barium Swallow X-Ray and all tests came up normal. I was told the swallowing problem is primarily related to GERD and I was advised Cintapro 1 mg tablet for 1 month. So far as I take the tablet, I am able to take in selected solid foods fine, but not all foods. If I do not take this tablet for one day, the problem recurrs back. Question 1: How long will this motility disorder be related to GERD ? Question 2: Are there any side effects of taking this Cintapro 1 mg to help in motility on a long term basis (Say if I need to take this for some more time) Questionj 3: Are there any other tests that will show the proper reason for this motility disorder of the esophaegus (Apart from Esopheagal Manometry, Gastro Endoscopy, Barium Swallow X-Ray) etc.

  Doctor's Answer

GERD will persist but the effect can be decreased by life style modification like good brisk walk for 40 mins, avoiding fat, consuming more curd and buttermilk rather than milk and keeping a gap of 2 hrs between food and sleep. Cintpro is by and large relatively safe drug for long term use till now. We need to see the reports of existing tests before we proceed with further tests Stress has significant role in symptoms so please be relaxed. ...

Hi.. Im 24 yr old male. i have an habit of masturbation. i think in my school 8th class i did masturbation first time. After a year it became a habit for me. i’m very much ashamed of having this habit. After doing masturbation, I hate myself that I cant control it. I think to control doing next time, but finally again I do it. From that time to till now I cant stop this habit. So more or less I masturbate twice a week anyway and in rare cases thrice a week. Accidentally during my college time I watched some programs in tv saying that masturbation causes not able to do sexual intercourse with partner. It causes not able to give a baby after marriage. After seeing that type of programs I got very much afraid of my life. Before two years I did laser eye surgery. Before surgery they did all pre-test for me. Then they said that your nerves are weak so we need to do two more extra test. After that extra test doctor said that we can do the surgery there’s nothing problem regarding the nerve weakness. I Think may be its family gene problem having nerve weakness. Maybe your grandfather too could had nerve weakness in his life. And now after two years of eye surgery I didn’t face any problems. As doctor said my nerves are weak in my body from my small age. After masturbating all these days I feel my nerves got more weak than before. I don’t know whether it is due to masturbation. But nowadays after masturbation I get head pain back side sometimes and not everytime. Anyway I feel nerves are weak in my body.I’m afraid very much that I cant do sexual intercourse with my partner if I get married. I’m afraid that I cant make my wife pregnant after my marriage. Please help me can I make a baby with sexual intercourse after my marriage? Do I’ve to get any treatment regarding sexual or regarding my nerve weakness or do I’ve to check whether can I make a baby with good sexual intercourse??
