My sgpt/alt is 142 and SGOT/AST is 63...is it very risky..?

Hi,

There are causes to raised sgpt and sgot,the common ones are
1)infection
2)alcohol
3)jaundice
4)cholestasis
These are amongst the common causes,no it is not very risky you will have to treat the cause
Are you an alcoholic
Any pain in abdomen
Any history of fever
You have to treat the cause,But to confirm you will have get complet liver finction tests like albumin levels,coagulation profile.

To start up I would like to tell you that amongst the common causes of raised sgot level is fatty liver commonly seen in alcoholics and people who are obese or overweight. I let an abcessed tooth go untreated for about six months and during that time i had an exam for a life insurance policy. The blood test revealed that I was having liver function problems, everything on the test was perfectly normal except my ast and alt levels were really high. i went for my complete body checkup.every thing was fine except my liver,the sgot and sgpt,billirubin was fine but my ggtp was high about 121.even my sugar level H1Blc was 5.5 with very low medication . i am taking metformin 250 gms two times daily after meals.another problem i am facing is lack of sleep for which i am taking 1mg of alprax every day.but still i am not able to sleep.I have to mention that i am a successful businessmen with stressful life.please suggest something

Hi, Your raised ggt is simply because of alcohol,and should not be of a problem if your other tests are all fine and within normal range.Just try and reduce your alcohol.
