PAST HISTORY : Recently suffering from repeated dry cough
Patient asked followup Question: 12 years ago
Also I am suffering for repeated chronic dry cough -- was continously coughing since 10 days . Is it normal ? (since I haven't smoked since 2 weeks) I've experience similar symptoms when I attempted quitting previously , and the cough gradually subsided after 3-4 days. But this time , It seems to persist even after 10 days . Bit concerned If these are symtoms of lung cancer . Please advice .

Hi,
You may face cough just after you leave smoking within a day or two, smoking fills your chest with smoke which is an irritant and that may cause irritation even after you leave smoke for intial few days, however that may convert into infection if your immunity is low but for now you just need symptomatic treatment, for cough like you can take syrup grillinctus-cd 2tsf bd for 3-5 days and you may also take menthol or some thing similar to relive your throat this you may continue for more days also.
Have plenty of water at least 3-4 litres
Avoid spicy and oily food.
If these symptoms like cough persist for another 10 days or so then you may go for a chest x-ray and then more tests might be needed later
Which part of the day you have more cough ?
Do you have fever ?
Lung cancer is usually not seen at this age.
Cough should not be a problem right now, just try and quit smoking and if you are determined to quit, then you may also go for a councelling with a psychiatrist also he might be of some help to you.

Hi,
If you have been having fever also regularly, then you should go for blood tests like cbc and esr for right now.(more tests might be needed depending on your history)
However if your fever's history is just a day or two old then that might be a viral infection and that should go away by self in another two days or so just have plenty of water and have symtomatic treatment for cough and if having cold then for that to.
Is fever associated with chills or may be rigors ?
Which part of the day is fever more ?
If fever is old or does not go away then antibiotic should be added but however you did not give any history about your fever.
However if you have chills associated with fever,or may severe body ache or may be bleeding from any site or severe weakness then you should consult a doctor
