Now coming to your query, from what i can make out is that it most likely seems to be a Temperomandibular Joint(T.M.J) issue which can also happen in relation to your wisdom tooth position & function. Although there are other problems which can be related to the (T.M.J), for proper specific diagnosis, i recommend you consult a Maxillofacial Dental Surgeon(Post graduate who specialize in Maxillofacial region). Although according to you you got your basic cleaning(oral prophylaxis) done, scaling itself seems unlikely the reason for the popping sound(it may be just a coincidence or a matter of time) for this to have happened.
