I understand your concern since your son must be in considerable discomfort. However what he has is known as Acute Urticaria, also called hives. This is a skin reaction pattern caused due to histamine release in the skin and can be caused due to a number of underlying reasons. In children amongst the commonest are intestinal worms and recent infection (e.g viral fever, cough & cold). In most cases acute urticaria is self-limiting with in 2-6 weeks.
I would recommend deworming your son with Syrup Albendazole 400 mg (equal to 10 ml) as a single dose after a meal. His doctor can prescribe this for him. Along with this start Syrup Promethazine or Hydroxyzine 5 ml three times a day for 7-14 days. Both of these are available over the counter without a prescription. Apply calamine lotion on the bumps if and when they come for symptomatic relief. If your son is showing any signs of infection like fever, sore throat, cough, or diarrhea then he will need a course of oral antibiotics. His doctor will need to prescribe this.
Please feel free to ask if you have any queries.
