Hi,
The Adam's apple is used when referring to the external appearance of the larynx also known as the voice box. The larynx sits on the top of the trachea also known as windpipe which in most people is fairly midline.
There can be abnormalities in its position ( For the most part, the human body is fairly symmetric ) , which may be the case in your situation. It is hard to say with any certainty without being able to examine you.
The larynx has mainly three functions
1. Breathing.
2. It contains the vocal folds and vocal apparatus resulting in speech
3. Swallowing
If you have a problem with any one of these three functions, then I would definitely recommend getting it evaluated from an ENT specialist but if there are no abnormalities in any of the above functions then it can be normal.
