Hi,
There has been no conclusive study about proving deriphyllin group drugs to be unsafe in pregnancy. But this is proved that uncontrolled breathlessness has more adverse effects on pregnancy than the above drug.
If you are prescribed this drug just for 15 days then I don't think that there is anything to worry about. These days most doctors are not going with the above drug as first line of therapy as it is a class c drug (drugs which have not been proved adverse effects in humans but they have had effects in animal fetus in experiments),and there are more safer drugs than the above mentioned drug.
Feel free to ask any more question.

Hello Dr Puneet Madan, Thanks for the information. So there would be no harmful effects on the foetus right? More than my health I am worried about my baby's health. If there is any problem with the foetus by the deriphyllin, how would it be detected or is there any side effect by the tablet so that will get to know? Can all the problems be detected through scanning? My doctor has also advised me take foracort 200 inhaler. Does this has any adverse effect on the baby. Please advice.

Hello,
The medications ( Deriphyllin & Foracort 200) you are taking are either generally accepted as safe during pregnancy or their safety during pregnancy has not been established.
Whenever medications are prescribed during pregnancy, patients and their doctors have to decide whether the benefits of the drugs outweigh the potential risks. If you have asthma, it could actually be riskier to NOT use your inhalers. It is generally safer for pregnant asthmatics to use their asthma medications than to have ongoing symptoms and/or frequent attacks.
Don't worry as your doctor has prescribed you lowest effective dose needed to maintain adequate asthma control. I suggest you talk to your doctor about your concerns. He/she is familiar with your case and is qualified enough to address any specific issues.
Good luck with your upcoming delivery.
