PAST HISTORY : no medical issues
Dr. Ritu Sethi answered : 12 years ago
Hi!!
your positive pregnancy test on a urine sample means that it is early pregnancy. To be completely sure that it is pregnancy, your doctor has rightly recommended a blood test for pregnancy which as rightly told if double after 48 hours means that it is a healthy pregnancy. The blood test measures the same hormone that the urine test checks except that it is more accurate.
You can wait for 7-10 days if no symptoms like pain abdomen/spotting whether brownish or blackish.
Also let me know of your past obstetric history if any and if you are suffering from any lifestyle diseases-diabetes,high blood pressure, etc

Hi, I was just thinking it was a false positive as a result of the HCG drops for the diet. l did put the drops on a test and it was positive. I do know there are mixed reviews online regarding this. My previous history is a pregnancy in 2009, incompetent cervix, pre term labor. I was on bed rest for ten weeks, had him via csection at 36 weeks and he was 8lbs. I had a miscarriage at 7 weeks in 2011 which happened naturally. I am RH negative and the dr. said I need a rogam shot if I bleed. I have normal periods, every 28-31 days and fertility issues. I did fertility for nine months to have my son. I will go to the lab tomorrow and then again Monday just to confirm this, although I wish I was patient enough to just wait. Thanks for your advice. Jaclyn

Hi Jaclyn!!
your issues as to whether the test for pregnancy is actually positive or not are actually confirmed by the serum beta hcg which if doubles in 48 hours means a viable and growing pregnancy.
please get the blood tests for the pregnancy done as told.
Also ,i hope you had rhogam after in your 1st pregnancy and after the miscarriage.
Also your previous pregnancy with history of incompetent os means that this condition is likely to happen again so go in for prophylactic encirclage of the cervix at 14 weeks of pregnancy
bye and good luck
