PAST HISTORY : PCOS

Hi,
There can be a difference of 2-3mm in follicular size in two days of cycle. This difference can also be due to some difference in the two ultrasound machines or may be the two doctors which is an individual difference an does not change the treatment line
In most people one shot of hcg is enough and they will be able to conceive with that, however some people might need two doses also, that is an individual variation.
However right now your follicular size is immature and you need to be given drugs for maturation of follicles for which you will have to consult your gynecologist
Usg(ultrasound scan) is a safe investigation and should be of no harm.

Thank You for your reply. My doc has also suggested me to wait for 3 more months that is not to take siphene for the next three cycles, instead take Fertisure and metformin 500mg for 3 months (i weigh 58 Kg and i am 5 feet tall ,Age 27), and try naturally . else another option in the next cycle take 100mg siphene with FSH 75 IU injection on Day 3,Day 5 and Day 7 of periods . M confused on what needs to be done , can you please tell me the positives and negatives of both these approach

Hi,
The doctor has suggested you because of your age because you are still young and can wait for baby.
The drug siphene and fsh are hormonal drugs and would help you conceive you but as these are hormones so they alter your natural hormones in the body which will not be good in long run.
However fertisure is just a vitamin complex and metformin is given for insulin resistance(to reduce your insulin resistance) and if you conceive naturally that is best because that would not cause any kind of hormonal imbalance and in long run would not cause you any other kind of problem.

If you conceive with metformin and fertisure that would be a natural method.I to would suggest you to wait for another 3 months to look if you can achieve pregnancy naturally.

Thank you Doc! Few more doubts ...what should the size of the follicles be on the 13th day . and what is the ideal size of the follicles when it would rupture ? and is metformin a life long drug that needs to be taken ?
Dr. Puneet Madan answered : 12 years ago
Hi,
Ideally if some one has a regular cycle(periods) the follicle should be mature and ready to rupture on thirteenth day, size of a mature follicle is around 20-21mm when it ruptures.
It depends why metformin is given to you if the only cause is pcod and is just given for this then it would be stopped after you conceive, but if you have type 2 diabetes(insulin resistance) along with pcod then it would be continued life long.
Many people achieve periods after they have their first baby.
