PAST HISTORY : Kidney stones
Dr. Raguram Ganesamoni answered : 11 years ago
Hi,
Kidney stones usually do not cause pain in testicles. Kidney stones cause pain in the area just below lower ribs or in the side of abdomen. When a stone from kidney passes into ureter (the tube connecting kidney and bladder), there may be pain in testicles. However, this does not seem to be the case with you.
You have mentioned some inflated nerves in left testicles. These are actually blood containing veins (tubes which return blood from tissues towards heart). Dilated veins around the testis is called a varicocele. Varicocele can sometimes cause dull pain, which will be increased by standing for a long time and towards evening. Varicocele is a common problem. You can try wearing tight underwear to see if there is any improvement in pain. The problems associated with long standing and large varicoceles are: 1. mild pain 2. decrease in sperm count and motility 3. decrease in size of testis in long run. However, you need not worry much about these problems. If the pain persists or the dilatation increases please visit a Urologist.
Is there any swelling involving the whole testis? Does the dilated veins collapse when you lie down?
Please mention the size and location of your kidney stones (ultrasonogram report) for further guidance regarding their management.
Wish you good health,
Dr. Raguram.
