Puppy street dog bit my mother aged 58,no treatment sofar after 20 days want to provide treatment.help.

Hi,

However 20 days is a very long period but you should still take a tetanus injection and ARV (Anti Rabies Vaccination) for prevention. The effect is reduced but still has preventive effects.

Usually if blood loss is there after dog bite then rabies serum also has to be taken. But that is taken only in 72 hours,so now that injection has no use.

But still ARV and tetanus is recommended.

Dr.Madan , only for my information sake what should be the dose and quantity and can I ask for a single dose of ARV with the physician so which brand is prefered.after the tetanus ARV , when further diagnosis has to be done and which tests.thankyou.

Hi,

The brand does not matter I believe. However I have used only rabipur. Diet does not matter after ARV or tetanus.

And no there no single ARV. It is a combination of 5 dose injection which is taken as follows (0,3,7,14,28) these represent as days.

No further test needs to be done for now.

Hi, The injections vaxirab you have taken is not a ARS .It is a vaccine and these are two different thing. Usually ARS is given at the site of dog bite where the dog has bitten you. if you have had bleeding from the place where dog has bitten you then yo may go for ARS (it is a serum,not vaccine) available at many government hospitals in India.
