My 6 month old infant has strong smelly urine and gray stools? Is this a sign for concern?

hello, a recent change in stool colour needs to be evaluated. Urine odour can be due to urinary tract infection .so i would suggest to investigate for infection from a nearby pediatrician. and watch for any further symptoms.

If the infant is on Breast feeds,grey stools can be because of viral diarrhea.Anyways its the consistency and frequency that matters.For the urine odour; is the infant gaining weight normally?have there been any febrile episodes?is there any discomfort while passing urine?(does he cry?)lastly increase his water intake and see......if he has any of these symptoms you might want to get a routine urine examination done.

In the absence of any other problems, these are not signs of concern. if the baby is growing normally, is active and playful and feeding normally these changes can be due to any change in diet that usually occurs at 6 months.

smelly urine = complete urine examination, RBS Tests to be done after showing to the pediatrician. And also feeding have to be adequate per day; if the baby is on breast feeding / milk feeds 500ml - 8ooml per day weaning foods have to be started along with enough water intake. my husband has cellulitis that has reoccurred on his face, he was given strong antibiotics and now after about 2 months its back, NoW he has developed diabetic symptoms he also has swollen ankles, and sometimes hands, I dont know if the two are related, and his face is now numb, I dont know where to take him for treatment, because he also has a bad tooth that might have caused it. where do i go? ER? PCP? Dentist? HElp!!

Press your thumb on the swelling part at the ankles for a while and observe if the tissues regain their original shape immediately or return after sometime which indicates retention of water in the body. My father had black stools (upon test it had occult blood), they did endoscopy and found an ulcer in lesser curvature. they did sclerotherapy. after couple of days the stools were normal in color. he got discharged. biopsy showed H.pylori and he was given h.pylori kit, orafer xt and cobadex since he had become anemic. after 2 days he fell unconscious, pissed in pants and later passed stools brown again. hospitalized him again. occult blood was present in stools from tests. they did endoscopy and found no bleeding from ulcer where sclerotherpy was done. everything normal in the stomoch and in both duodenum. he is still passing brown stools. donot know why ? please give your opinion.

Hi, Brown coloured usually may be even normal because of a little high billirubin content in stools. But there is also occult blood in stools so the blood must be coming from some place(intestines,stomach,duodenum) and it has been seen by a endoscopy that your oesophagus and stomach and duodenum are normal,now there can be blood from other sites, from lower gastro intestinal tract (colon,rectum). i am a 24 yr old girl , i had a medical abortion at 6 march 2013 last month. i had all my blood test done prior and it was normal. i had also undergone a pelvic usg and i was 5 weeks pregnant. after 2 weeks from abortion i had a pelvic usg done and doctor reassured it was done and my uterus was empty.i strted bleeding on 21st march 2013 and doctor said she's not sure but could be my periods (bleeding started 1 day after i was assured uterus empty). yesterday 03 april 2013 about after 30 days , i am having right side lower abdominal pain travelling downwards and diarhea all day and discharge from vagina. the discharge is not smelly but its continusly coming like a string . i am worried as i do not know what is happening . why am i having diarrhea pain and discharge. is it jus a virus or do i have some infection ? Pid ?

Hi, The pain in lower abdominal area which you are felling near your uterus is not necessary,that there is some pathology in your uterus only.Pain can also be accompanied with loose motions in that area and you also might be having some kind of urinary infection which might be causing that pain(the pain would wean of as soon your intestinal infection gets better and your discharge seems to reduce). 1. My grand daughter 2 yrs of age having severe lose motion or diarrhea for the last 4 days and passing watery yellowish stool every 5 to 10 minutes. Had slight temperature max 101.5 Deg F, for the first two days. Now there is no temperature. 2. She is being hydrated and has been passing urine occasionally. She is 11kg by weight. 3. Urine and stool tests have been carried out. There is no infection. 4. Urine : Albumin- Trace, Ketone Bodies-Present +, Red Bllod Cells-Absent, Puss Cell-4-5/HPF, Epithelial Cells-2-3/HPF 5. Stool: reducing substances- Present +, Puss cells â€“ 2-3/HPF, Epithelial cells-Occasional. (Oval Cysts not seen) 6. Local doctor says she will be all right but her watery stool continues unabated and we are extremely worried. She is losing her body weight and becoming cranky. Her skin around anus has become swollen & reddish. 7. She has been put on liquid O2 Suspension from today (Ofloxacin and Orindazole) 8. Please let us know: a.
