I have a 22 month old daughter. She is having fever right now. Today's the first day. Fever is around 102 degrees. I have given her Sinarest paeditric drops 1.5ml. Is that the right dosage? Should I continue with that or should I shift to Calpol Paedritic drops (each ml contains Paracetamol IP 100 mg, colour - sunset yellow). What should be the dosage?

  Doctor's Answer

Thanks for your query Sinarest drops contain paracetamol for fever and phenylpropalamine for nasal decongestion. If your daughter is not having any nasal symptoms there is no need to give sinarest drops and these should be given only under medical supervision could be harmful.I suggest you to shift to calpol which is more safe for children.Dose is 15mg/kg.If your daughter is 15 kg u may give her 1.5 ml calpol drops every 6 hourly along with sponging with water at room temperature all over the b ...

Baby is suffering from cold and more importantly cough since past 2 days. Doctor has prescribed T-minic drops 0.5 ml oral for 3 days and post to which cough didnot subside, then to use Kufril drops 0.5 ml thrice a day. However on using first instance of T-minic baby had pooped 4 times (Can be because he was on antibiotics just a week back for ear infection. His stools were more in number atleast twice after every feed. But once medicnes are stopped his stools were back to normal and he poops only once a day). and also his cough has increased very much. His feeding routine got slightly distrubed as he is not able to complete the bottle with ease. He leaves an ounce or so sometimes due to stuffy nose or congestion. Are these medications safe for a 5 month old baby? if not what precautions to be taken to soothe him from cough and cold?

  Doctor's Answer

First of all we need to exclude lower respiratory tract infection which may include pneumonia or bronchiolitis.Take your child to a paediatrician for clinical examination.U mentioned your child was on antibiotics 3 times in last 4 months. Was it due to lactose intolerance only leading to loose motions or for some other illness also ?? Has exclusive bottle feeding advised to you by a paediatrician after diagnosis of lactose intolerance or the child was bottle fed since bi ...

Hello, I'm really sorry to hear about what happened. Well babies often have spots known as Mongolian Spots on the lower back and buttocks. These spots are usually present at birth but can develop even afterwards in the first week of life. These spots are harmless and disappear over a few months to years and no treatment is required. The medical name for the problem is Congenital Dermal Melanocytosis. Here is a link with more information regarding Mongolian spots: http://en.**url**/wiki/Mongoli ...

Can I give a 2 and half month old baby hissatussin. There is a cold in baby chest and sounds like weezing.

  Doctor's Answer

Hello. the baby is just 2 & 1/2 months old. So cold or coryza can be due to nasal congestion. Any nasal decongestant like Nasomist or Nasoclear Drops 1 drop each nostril 4 times a day can provide relief. Oral medications like hissatussin may be avoided. And if the child has wheez, it is better to consult a near by pediatrician as he might require Nebulization also. ...
