I had a skin extension in my underarm, which has grown up too big and causing incovenience now, I was thinking its because of weight variations, but, now even though no issue with my body size oncrease, this extension , I am feeling is causing problem

PAST HISTORY : No health issues

Hi,

The skin extension you described me , may occur due to variety of causes.

1. They can be simple skin tags,which might not be the case with you as you described they are huge skin extensions.
2. They can be gland swellings
3. It could be due to filarial infection,in which one limb is way more increased in size than the other

You will have to describe more about your symptoms -
Is it only on one limb or both?
Does it involve any discoloration?
Do you have the same sensitivity of that increased growth or whether reduced sensitivity?
Do you have breathlessness?is it painful,or do you have fever?
I hope there is no local trauma to you or may be some more symptoms (like hand movement or joint movement is it affected). Have you got any investigations done as of now?

Thank you Dr. Madan, I have it in my left underarm and no discoloration. No breathlessness and no fever and also have normal sensitivity. Only if I press at the base I feel pain. No issue with arm movement, but due to increase in its size, sometimes feel uncomfortable , when I leave my arm down. I am facing problem in uploading the complete photos, those photos are incompletely loaded. It may be skin extension or gland swelling or skin tags, any treatment options, please let me know.

Hi,

Usually the skin tags are not huge enough to cause distressing symptoms. It could be gland swelling but it needs to be examined which gland it is and treated accordingly as there might be some glands which can be removed without causing much discomfort to you however in others only some part can be removed.

It could also be a lymphatic obstruction, which can be definitely be told only after examination and then telling you about investigation accordingly.

Skin tags can be cauterized or cut off easily they don't need to be woried about at all.Rest the investigation will be so wage if i tell you like this then it would be a huge list of investigation uselessly.

You better show it to a genral surgeon(ms) because it is diificult to comment on it without even looking at it where is it arising from.

My father is 78 years old and has been suffering from constipation for the last 2 years. He has also lost a lot of weight around 10 kgs in this time span. In the last couple of months he has been complaining that his abdominal muscles have torn due to bowel straining and now he says there is loss of muscle in his stomach area. Which is why when he lies down everything is fine but when he sits up and walks around he feels like he is carrying a weight in his stomach. After intake of food it becomes worse and he also gets bloating. We have done all possible tests - colonoscopy, CT scan, ultrasound sometime last year and everything was clear. The doctors gave a verdict of idiopathic constipation and left it at that. His blood work is fine, haemoglobin levels, cholestrol etc. He still suffers from constipation. His prostrate is enlarged but results are fine. What is the solution to his stomach muscle problem ? Is it lack of exercise, lack of protein ? He doesnt have a pot belly and has never had and had always been physically active and fairly slender.

Hi, History told by you favours irritable bowel syndrome ( IBS ). There are two alarming signs in your case : Firstly, loss of weight and that to10kg approx. Secondly, sensation of carrying a weight in stomach. Both of them do occurs in IBS. I have what I thought was a bruise falring up a bit on my right chin / jaw line. I could feel the bump but could not remember being hit to cause such a decent size lump. My children often kick and hit me in the face in play. But to get this size lump would have been memorable unless at 39 my body now can't handle even a gentle bump. But it seems to now be getting slightly worse and is begining to feel numb and slightly itchy. I have a very mild middle bottom tooth infection. Hi, If your swelling is on the same side as the tooth ache, it could be because of the existing tooth infection. To determine if the cause is the tooth or not, you need to visit a dentist and get a complete oral examination done specifically focusing on that particular side of the jaw. A few years back after having visited a hill station in India.. i got this sort of coating on my upper lip that couldn't be scraped off easily, a lot of my friends did too.. but even now my problem persists, this was followed by dryness around my lip and white patches that were spreading and cuts started forming. on consulting several dermatologists, they prescribed Fluticasone Propionate ointments of varying concentration saying that its caused by the fact that I was born by extremely dry skin and the saliva dries the area more, but I've been using petroleum jelly on my lips since I was small as I always used to get chapped lips.. I similar sort of dry patch developed on my finger which went on to spread over the years to my entire finger, for which i use the the same medication.. the itching on the finger and the dryness goes away after a couple of days of use but then it comes back when not used and the texture of my finger has turned out to be slightly glossy looking compared to the rest of my fingers..

For my sister in the age of 14, few steroids injected to suppress the growth of an abscess which was grown due to herpes viral infection in the upper lip below nose. Hi, Steroids given by systemic route play a role in body stunting,but once the full body size is achieved or height is achieved,then body stunting doesn't occur and steroid leads to increase in weight gain and does not reduce weight.
